Latest Guidelines for International Travel to India (October 2025)

Planning to visit India in late 2025? Here’s a complete summary of the latest official rules and travel procedures for foreign nationals entering India, including visa requirements, the new e-Arrival Card, health and safety regulations, and a pre-departure checklist.

1. Entry & Immigration Requirements

  • All international travellers must carry a valid passport and a valid Indian visa or e-Visa. Visa exemptions apply only to citizens of specific neighbouring countries under bilateral agreements.
  • Your passport should have at least six months of validity remaining from your date of arrival and a minimum of two blank pages for immigration stamps.
  • From 1 October 2025, India has introduced a digital e-Arrival Card that must be submitted online up to 72 hours before arrival. This replaces the old paper disembarkation form at most airports.
  • All foreign nationals, including OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) cardholders, are required to complete the e-Arrival Card before travelling.
  • At immigration, you may be asked to present your accommodation address in India, return or onward flight ticket, and purpose of travel. Keep these details handy for smooth clearance.

2. Health & Vaccination Guidelines

  • As of October 2025, there is no mandatory COVID-19 test or quarantine for travellers entering India.
  • It is recommended (not required) that visitors be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and routine diseases such as Measles-Mumps-Rubella, Typhoid, Hepatitis A/B, and Tetanus.
  • Travellers showing flu-like symptoms on arrival may be subject to health screening at the airport.
  • Carry your vaccination certificates and any necessary prescriptions in their original packaging.
  • Comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies and trip interruptions is strongly advised.

3. Safety & Regional Advisories

  • India is generally safe for tourists, but travellers should remain alert in crowded areas and avoid sharing personal details with unknown agents or unlicensed guides.
  • Avoid travel within ten kilometres of the India-Pakistan border and in certain restricted zones of Jammu & Kashmir or the northeastern tribal regions unless you have specific permits.
  • Respect local customs and dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites and rural communities.

4. Pre-Departure Travel Checklist

  • ✅ Complete and submit your e-Arrival Card online (within 72 hours of departure).
  • ✅ Verify your visa category and carry printed confirmation of your e-Visa or stamped visa.
  • ✅ Keep a printed copy of your hotel booking or host’s address in India.
  • ✅ Carry your return or onward flight ticket.
  • ✅ Pack your travel insurance policy details and medical documents.
  • ✅ Stay updated on airline requirements for boarding and documentation.
Important: Travel rules and visa policies can change with short notice. Always confirm with your airline and the nearest Indian embassy or consulate before travelling.
